Please read my very first entry and then read A Life of Tragedies and Perseverance. This will explain my blog. I am trying to raise enough to take my husband on a vacation for our anniversary. So please share ideas on how to make my blog into a real money maker! Thank you so much!

Saved $12.96 at Walmart.
It's so disappointing. I spent $52 and saved almost $13. I read blogs and see people saving $100 and paying $25. What am I doing wrong? Well my daughter's boyfriend is stationed at Keesler Air Force base and he said he would get me a visitor pass and I could try my skills at the store on base. They have lower prices and I can use coupons plus no sales tax! But they have some sort of fee for shopping there, I think like 5% fee added on, but still less than sales tax. I think the biggest trick to saving money grocery shopping is just finding a store that has double coupons, then only buy the fantastic buys that week and buying those things in bulk. Unfortunately I don't seem to find and amazing deals on things we need and I really don't have the extra $$$ to buy things just for the sake of saving money on them. I know I talk about driving to Gulfport and testing my theory out at Food Giant on a weekly basis, but it's hard to find the time to go all the way out there. Not to mention the possible wasted gas if it doesn't pay off. I have been hesitant but curious now for 2 months. I should just do it and get it over with haha.

Don't feel bad. Unless I go to Rite Aid, I do about the same. You have to keep a couple things in mind: !.) The stores you have to choose from, 2.) the type of items you buy. I have seen people's blogs where they got hundreds of dollars worth of stuff but it was nothing my family would eat. I only post the stuff I got cheap from Walmart and Wegmans because it helps me feel better about the fact that I spent $70 or $80 on all the other stuff I got!
ReplyDeletejust keep at it, you'll get the hang of it. i've seen some of your rite aid trips, they are pretty good. any way you look at it, you're saving money using the qs, so you learn as you save. that's a bonus. i've made some mistakes too, i just don't post them because it frustrates me. and you must be doing something right because i came to your blog to find me some deals. :)
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, and walmart is not that great as far as qs go. at least for me. i find a deal or two here and there, but rarely shop there anymore, although others i know swear by it.
ReplyDeleteDebby, you are so right. We have no stores to choose from and that is the most frustrating part! Before Katrina we had 4 grocery stores plus Walmart! It's so sad that not a single grocery store will come back! And, we dont eat 95% of the items that people have listed that they saved on. But I still look at them enviously hahaha. I need to keep these things in mind though you are right.
ReplyDeleteChristine, first THANK YOU for saying you come to my blog to find deals!! That made my day! :) And I agree Walmart is not the greatest store to shop at but the only one convenient to me unfortunately. With 4 kids with busy schedules it's so hard to find the time to go running to other towns to go grocery shopping. My Rite Aid trips have saved us some serious $$$ which leaves us more money to spend on groceries and family fun days! So that is the way I have to look at it. Thanks!
